Mobile Communication Devices
UNC Charlotte has implemented Mobile Communications Device (MDC) policy. This policy was developed to be in compliance with Internal Revenue Service regulations regarding the use of these devices. Additional details about the MCD policy are available in the MDC policy statement (#125) and on the Implementation Procedures Supplement.
Below are configurations for some of the more popular mobile device platforms for accessing your UNC Charlotte email and other configurations.
Please Note: Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Web Access is UNC Charlotte's preferred solution for means of official communication. You can also view your University email through Citrix and Outlook Web Access both on and off campus. Employee email accounts have an email quota set to 500 MB. Quotas for individual emails are set to 30 MB each including attachments.
*Note: In some cases only email received from the time your email account was setup on your phone will be accessible.

Accessing UNC Charlotte email on a BlackBerry

From the main screen of the BlackBerry, select the Applications icon. |

Select the Email Settings icon. |
| Step 3: |
Under the Existing Users Section, enter your BlackBerry Username and Password. |
| Step 4: |
Select Log In. |
| Step 5: |
Select Email Accounts. |
| Step 6: |
Select Add An Email Account. |
| Step 7: |
Type the full email UNC Charlotte address in the Email Address? field (for example: jdoe@uncc.edu). |

Type the NinerNET email password in the Password? field. |
| Step 9: |
Select Next. |
| Step 10: |
A message will display You have successfully configured access to: (your email address will be displayed). |

Setting up a BlackBerry for Enterprise Activation

Ffrom the device, click [Settings>] Options > Advanced Options > Enterprise Activation |

Type your primary corporate email address: (press the space key for an "@" symbol and again for ".") user@domain.com. |

Type the special activation password: blackberry |
| Step 4: |
Select Activate

| Step 5: |
The device will respond with Verifying encryption keys... then it will start to download service books. Depending on the size of your mailbox it can take up to an hour or more to complete. |

You will receive a message when the activation is complete, Congratulations!! |

*Note: You must have a data plan that is compatible with the Enterprise Server. Check with your Service Provider to verigy before attempting the activation. |
Wiping Data from a BlackBerry
*Warning: The following procedures will delete either all data, or all data and applications on the BlackBerry.
*Note: If you have turned on Content Protection, the process for deleting all the data on the BlackBerry can take up to an hour to complete. Do not remove the battery from the BlackBerry while data is being deleted.

From the Home screen on your BlackBerry, go to Options > Security Options > General Settings. |

Click on the trackwheel or the Menu button. |

Select Wipe Handheld from the menu. |
| Step 4: |
Click Continue. |

Type "blackberry" (without the quote marks), and then press the Enter key. |

*Note: Windows Vista does not use ActiveSync. Vista uses Windows Mobile Device Center available on Microsoft's Windows Mobile Device Center website.

Select ActiveSync from your programs menu. |
| Step 2: |
Select Menu, and then Configure Server. |
| Step 3: |
Input unccmail.uncc.edu as the server address, and do not select SSL connection required, then click Next. |
| Step 4: |
Input your NinerNET username and password, and enter its.uncc.edu as the domain, then click Next. |

Select which folders you want to synchronize, and click Finish. |
| Step 6: |
Click Sync and your device should now download and sync your email and other items. |
Clearing Data on a Windows Mobile Device/PDA
