Internet Explorer 7 now available for download from the NAL

ITS has now made available Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) for download to campus computers. You can install IE7 on your campus computer by clicking on the install icon located in the Novel Application Launcher (NAL). IE7 has new features designed to make the product more secure and easier to use. The most noticeable changes you will experience are tabbed browsing and web search right from the toolbar. Click here to take a tour of the new features in IE7.

IE7 Security Status Bar

You may notice the new changes in the way IE7 deals with security and identity information available for a website.

IE7 Security Bar

The Security Status Bar is displayed when a page may contain fields for sensitive information (e.g. personally identifiable information, usernames and passwords, bank accounts, etc.). You should look for the Security Status Bar and proceed accordingly. The background color for the entire Address Bar is changed based on the information available about the identity of the website. When the Security Status Bar is visible, clicking on lock icon will display the Security Report for the website as shown below.

IE7 Website Identification

Whenever you are visiting any website, you should look at the full address (URL) for the site to understand what website you are looking at. IE7 helps you by enforcing the presence of an address bar in every window, but you still may need to scroll through it or maximize the window in order to view the full address. Click here for more information on how to accept a site certificate in IE7.
