Citrix

Downloadable Instructions

Secure remote access anytime, anywhere

The Citrix MetaFrame Presentation Server extends secure access to UNC Charlotte's networked resources beyond the traditional office environment.

With Citrix, most desktop PCs, notebook computers, PDAs or Internet appliances can be used to connect remotely to applications installed on the Citrix server regardless of your local operating system from places such as your home or anywhere access to the Internet is available.

Here is a list of software applications available through Citrix:

  • Office 2003 Suite
  • Office 2007 Suite
  • SPSS 14
  • SAS 9.2
  • ArcGIS
  • Maple 10
  • Mathematica
  • SFTP

Once you launch an application through Citrix, you will be able to see your network files.  For instance, when you launch Outlook through Citrix, not only will you have access to the full email client but you will also be able to get to your personal folders.

Connecting to Citrix from on/off campus

To connect to Citrix, go to http://www.uncc.edu/citrix. Log in with your NinerNET user name and password.

First time logging into Citrix/Installing the Citrix Client

To connect to Citrix delivered applications, you will need to install a Citrix Client.  (This only needs to be done the first time you connect.)  In the lower right corner of the page, there will be a message that directs you to download and install the web client for Citrix.  If you are using a Windows PC, click on the link that says "MetaFrame Presentation Server Client for 32-bit Windows" to install the Citrix Client. After you install the Citrix Client you may be prompted to restart your browser but this isn't necessary. If you are not using a Windows PC, click on the link to the Citrix Client download site to select the appropriate Citrix Client for your operating system.

Message Center

After the Citrix Client is installed, log in with your NinerNET user name and password.

Accessing/Storing files using Citrix

IMPORTANT!  When connected to a Citrix session, the server automatically maps drives back to the local hard drives (in the computer physically in front of you) so that you can open and save files locally while in the citrix session.  The first time you try to open or save a document, you will be asked for permission to access your local hard drive.  When you allow this, it is only for the current session, unless you choose "Don't ask me again".  Once the drives are mapped, Citrix assigns a location for your local/network drives and will appear for example as “C$ on Client (V:\)” and so on in the Citrix session. For further explanation on how to handle documents while in a Citrix session, click here.

Saving to your H: Drive

Your (H:) drive is mapped to a folder on an ITS server especially for your use.  Saving to your (H:) drive while in a Citrix session works exactly the same as if you were saving from your local computer.
