Installing the Cisco VPN Client 3.5 with Windows XP SP2 [Show/Hide all screenshots]
Step 1: Login to your workstation as an administrator.
Step 2: If you do not have an anti-virus application installed, install UNCC provided Symantec Anti-Virus (SAV) Corporate Edition 9.0 prior to updating MS Windows XP with SP2. Patch the SAV to program version 9.0.0.1400 by downloading the SAVCE_9.0.0_MP2 patch file from Symantec’s web site (www.symantec.com). Make sure SAV Live Update works.
Step 3: If you do not have Service Pack 2 for Windows XP installed, install Service Pack 2 for Windows XP. When the installation of the Service Pack 2 is completed reboot the computer.
Step 4: If using a UNCC provided PC, do not activate automatic updates. Select “Not right now” and go to the next screen.
Step 5: Login to your workstation as an administrator.
Step 6: Right click My Computer on the desktop. Select Manage from the pop-up menu list. [Show/Hide screenshot]
Step 7: In the Computer Management window select Services and Applications. [Show/Hide Screenshot]
Step 8: Select Services in the next window. [Show/Hide Screenshot]
Step 9: Find Window Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) in the offered list of services (it will be toward the bottom of the list). Double click on the name to obtain the properties window. Make sure that the General tab is selected. [Show/Hide Screenshot]
Step 10: Change the Startup type from Automatic to Disabled. [Show/Hide Screenshot]
Step 11: Change the Service status from Started to Stopped by clicking on the Stop button. Click OK to apply and close the window. [Show/Hide Screenshot]
Step 12: Move back up the list and find the IPSEC Services service. Double click on the name to obtain the properties window. Make sure that the General tab is selected. [Show/Hide Screenshot]
Step 13: Change the Startup type from Automatic to Disabled. [Show/Hide Screenshot]
Step 14: Change the Service status from Started to Stopped by clicking on the Stop button. Click OK to apply and close the window. Close the Computer Management window. [Show/Hide Screenshot]
Step 15: Right click My Computer on the desktop. Select Properties from the pop-up menu list. [Show/Hide Screenshot]
Step 16: In the System Properties window select the Hardware tab. Click on the Driver Signing button. [Show/Hide Screenshot]
Step 17: In the Driver Signing Options window select the Ignore – Install the software anyway and don’t ask for my approval radio button. Click OK in both windows to apply and close the windows. [Show/Hide Screenshot]
Step 18: Load the Cisco VPN 3.5 CD in the PC’s CD drive. It will autorun and provide you with a menu dialog box. Select the Install Cisco VPN Client menu choice.
Step 19: In the VPN Client Installer dialog box click Yes as this action has already been completed in a previous step. [Show/Hide Screenshot]
Step 20: Follow the instructions available on the Cisco VPN CD.
Step 21: Test the VPN connection and make sure it works.
Step 22: Log in as an administrator if you have not done so.
Step 23: Right click My Computer on the desktop. Select Manage from the pop-up menu list. [Show/Hide Screenshot]
Step 24: In the Computer Management window select Services and Applications. [Show/Hide Screenshot]

Step 28: Change the Service status from Stopped to Started by clicking on the Start button (if the Start button is not available close the window and reopen). Click OK to apply and close the window. [Show/Hide Screenshot]
Step 29: Move back up the list and find the IPSEC Services service. Double click on the name to obtain the properties window. [Show/Hide Screenshot]
Step 30: Make sure that the General tab is selected. Change the Startup type from Disabled to Automatic. Click OK to apply and close the window. Close the Computer Management window. [Show/Hide Screenshot]
Step 31: Right click My Computer on the desktop. Select Properties from the pop-up menu list. [Show/Hide Screenshot]
Step 32: In the System Properties window select the Hardware tab. Click on the Driver Signing button. [Show/Hide Screenshot]
Step 33: In the Driver Signing Options window select the Warn – Prompt me each time to choose an action radio button if it is not already selected. Click OK in both windows to apply and close the windows. [Show/Hide Screenshot]
Step 34: Verify that the Cisco VPN Dialer still works by trying to connect.
Step 35: Reboot the computer.
Note: If you receive the following Windows XP error message after installing the Cisco VPN Client:

A recently installed program has disabled the Welcome screen and Fast User Switching. To restore these features, you must uninstall the program. The following file name might help you identify the program that made the change: CSGINA.DLL

OR the Windows XP Fast User Switching will not work you will need to perform the following additional steps below:
Step 1: Copy the ginadll.reg file from the CD to your desktop.
Step 2: Double click on the ginadll.reg file on your desktop to execute it.
Step 3: Delete the file from your desktop.
Step 4: Reboot your computer.


Login to VPN

Step 1: Click Start, Programs, Cisco Systems VPN Client, VPN Dialer.
Step 2: Click New.
Step 3: Name of the new connection entry: UNCC
Description of the new connection entry (optional): Connect to UNCC
Step 4: See Install CD Documentation for Host Name, Username and Password.
Click Finish
Step 5: Username: Enter your NinerNET username in this dialog box
Password: Enter your NinerNET password in this dialog box
Click OK


Disconnecting your connection

Double click on the padlock in the system tray in the lower right corner of your desktop and then select Disconnect to end the connection.
