Remote Access to Internet Native Banner (INB)
Because of the sensitive nature of data residing in our systems, Banner may only be reached from off-campus by connecting through multiple "firewalls." That's a technical way of saying that, if you are off-campus, you need a special way to get onto the private part of our network. There are two ways to gain access to Banner from off-campus; through Citrix or by establishing a secure connection to the campus network using Cisco System's VPN Client. The preferred way to access Banner from off-campus is through Citrix.
Access Internet Native Banner (INB) Using Citrix
The Citrix MetaFrame Presentation Server extends secure access to UNC Charlotte's networked resources beyond the traditional office environment.
With Citrix, most desktop PCs, notebook computers, PDAs or Internet appliances can be used to connect remotely to applications installed on the Citrix server regardless of your local operating system from places such as your home or anywhere access to the Internet is available.
The preferred way to access Banner from off-campus is through Citrix. For downloadable instructions and additional information, go to http://www.helpcenter.uncc.edu/citrix.html. To connect to Citrix, go to http://www.uncc.edu/citrix. Log in with your NinerNET user name and password.
Access Internet Native Banner (INB) Using Cisco Systems VPN
The Cisco Systems VPN Client is used to created a secure connection to the campus network. This client will need to be installed on your personal computer and running before you can access Banner.
How do I Prepare My Personal Computer?
If you are a regular remote user of Banner INB, you can prepare by installing at least the minimum version of Sun JRE needed ahead of time.
How can I get the Cisco Systems VPN Client?
The Cisco Systems VPN Client is available for check-out from the Reserves Desk on the 2nd floor of Atkins Library. This service is only available to Faculty/Staff.
